10.0 Best New Year

Welcome to 2012, #METASWAG.

More than usual, the strike of midnight this January 1st meant to me a graduation from my own liminality. I can't pretend my many bad habits will vanish with the calendar year, but I can promise to adopt more good habits. I'm ready to learn. I know this spring semester poses an academic and professional challenge, but I can't help but marvel at its promise of fun and self-enrichment. Optimism is my new religion.

In 2012, I hope I don't smother you with the rumble of my schedule. I'd rather this blog be a space in which to smuggle my momentary wonder. If I have to turn over some ideas in my head, the turning will be found here.

This doesn't exactly signal a reimagining of #METASWAG. I have trouble not writing about the music and movies I love. I'll still produce hundreds of words without much in the way of a thesis. The hopeful change is that I'll blog more regularly, about coherent subjects, and with more deliberate language. I wouldn't be surprised if during the first week of classes I write an absurdly long and recklessly unfocused 3 a.m. post. That's not what this is, is it?

I feel confident in myself. Bring on the learning!

(And remember, there's nothing to make you feel alive like Jeezy's "F.A.M.E." or Train's "Drops Of Jupiter" or Henryk Górecki's 3rd Symphony)

The Year In Preview

I am reborn in the New Year.

Thesis
2011 is gonna be a good year. Also,

+ If #METASWAG began every post with a picture, it would be alright. Also,
+ If #METASWAG ended every post with a poem, it would be alright.

Feels
Weird not writing lists. I mean, it's what I've been doing for the past month. I've nearly lost the ability to communicate (online) in any other discourse. I now have to contend with real first-world issues like boredom and sleepiness. I can't just ignore my life's problems by writing comprehensive evaluations of the past year's media.

But maybe I can write about this year's media...

2011 (Albums)
That's right - it's already happening. Here's what's been cooking in my ears:

> S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TnT - Akron/Family
> Kaputt - Destroyer
> Angels of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1 - Earth
> The One... Cohesive - G-Side
> James Blake - James Blake
> Dye It Blonde - Smith Westerns

So don't worry about me slacking on my musical intake. It's flowing.

Wait
There's a new year waiting for me! The last one was nice, but I think I can do it even better this time. For one, spring semester is always more successful academically and partyingly. For two, I'm growing as a person.

I suppose I need some resolutions.

> BE HEALTHY
> WRITE A NOVEL
> THINK LESS ABOUT MORE AND MORE ABOUT LESS

There was this brief hour last night as the sun set where I thought a lot about simple things. I felt so moved and human. A wonderful experience. Proceeded to take a long shower, feeling out all the motions and neglecting to worry about trivialities. So obvious, and so cliche for a resolution, but nevertheless, the emotions were huge and the revelation seemed important. I'm not getting any younger, and I have to start figuring out the Big Stuff. If I get lost in the Big Stuff, how can I have fun? So: think little/huge.

Swag
Turn It On. Played a lot of chess with fam and female (5-6 overall). New Year's Eve party was excellent, courtesy of JWong. Fam and friends abound. Visit from the girlfriend (love) prior was likewise beautiful. King&Queenie. Steak 'n Shake tonight was refreshing, though I hate to see Hayley go. Excited to see The Music Tapes on Tuesday. The year begins.

Conclusions
Sleep is still great in 2011. Going to bed now. I can't wait to see what happens this year when I'm not sleeping.

"Daydream Little Bed"

Drone cymbal fill punch
Feel force head back hit hunch
Every little touch and every little
Rise out of it
Call tomorrow and
Never been so ready for the
Tomorrow's Promise
Better be a good one
I promise
It will be a good one
